Lindenlea - New Edinburgh Community Overview
Lindenlea – New Edinburgh is bounded by Maple Lane and Princess Avenue to the north, and the Rideau River and Montreal Road to the south. The eastern border includes Acacia, Beechwood, and Vanier Parkway. The west is bordered by the Ottawa/Outaouais River. The Lindenlea area was established in 1918 by urban planner Thomas Adams and is one of the first planned communities in Ottawa. Over the years, residents have worked to maintain the garden suburb style originally envisioned by Adams. The New Edinburgh land was bought by Thomas McKay (prominent builder of the Rideau Locks) in 1829 and was named after his hometown of Edinburgh, Scotland. Some of the more notable locations in this neighbourhood include Rideau Hall, the Governor General of Canada’s residence, as well as 24 Sussex Drive, the Prime Minister’s residence.
